AA's not a bad deal mick, it gives you the support you WILL need. Quiting booze aint as easy as quiting smokeing.
Watched my brother drink himself to death after he came home from Vietnam. 38 years old with 4 kids. Watched several uncles on moms side and a couple of friends with the same problem. Some doctors say its genetic.
You'll have good days and bad days. Those bad days is when you'll need an ear to bend and a shoulder to lean on. AA or a really good friend is what helps then. Thing about AA is it gives you someone who knows what your going through, someone whos been there. Dealt with the demons. Most folks dont know or relize just how bad it can get.
Today may not seem bad, depending on how much you drank a day. Each day is going to get a lil worse for the next couple of weeks. Massive depression, Withdrawl symptoms, DT's, suicidal thoughts, major mood swings, feeling like death warmed over, these are all headed your way. Find some help. It does get easier...eventualy. But its going to take awhile and you'll never be over it. The temptation, the need, will always be there.
Major trick is keep your MIND occupied. Build, read, something to keep your mind elsewhere. And then it will still sneak up on you and bite you in the arse. You really want to quit and stay quit, find a sponsor. And dont drink ANYTHING alcoholic! One drink and your back to square one, even a beer. Good Luck.
