My interp of the singh groove was to help propagate the flame front for balancing the completion of the combustion.
By having such a tight squish area, flame propagation is slower than the rest of the cylinder.
So adding the groove will bring the flame into the squish area faster so that combustion is completed throughout the cylinder at the same time.
