We see the 787 and 747/8 over here lots. Boeing does much testing over here, has their own facility on the old USAF base and has leased an old B-52 nose dock building that JAL used to use when they trained 47 and DC-10 pilots here. Supposed to be about 200 Boeing folks over here for the testing process, have seen many more Boeing market vehicles in town including their own fire department rigs. Years ago watched a 37/100 followed by a 47/100 on final, what a difference in the visual part of the speed of the two planes, even thought I'm sure the actual speed was close to the same. Also the old Concord did some of its flight test for FAA approval years ago here.  Daily we see some CA and Lewis/McCord Boeing C-117's doing touch and go and approaches, USAF will TDY the Spokane aircraft refueling wing here after the first of the year while they work on the runway there. Hotels/motels, restaurants and college on the old base are thrilled at the unusual revenue. Also the broke ground last month for a BMW electric car composite panels plant, 80 new jobs are nice for this small area with the possibility of growing to 200.  Life is good in the dry side of the state. Hay is up and tarped and didn't get wet. Max

Wow, if only Orville and Wilber could see what 107 years hath wrought.

...did you know that a fragment of the original Wright Flyer was carried to the moon on Apollo 11? It's on display at the Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio.

If  i'm not mistaken, that photo was in the UK national papers this week. It was to commemorate the 70th year of the battle of Britain, where the old pilots who fought in the battle(1940) were flown over their old airfields and escorted by a Spitfire and Hurricane.

Fid,my nephew said the two spits were escorting the 787 into Farnbough for the Air show, however your story is also correct.
I have often wondered how many spitfires there are left in the world ?
there is one right here at our air musium, I think the confederate Air Force somewhere in Texas has a few,in fact they used them in the movie "Battle of Britain" only on the condition that the owners flew them thereselves.

My Dad who died 6 weeks ago at 94 was part of the battle of britain, not a pilot ,but an engine mechanic,on  both spits and huricans,
here he is after the war ,when he did learn to fly.
