Last December, I had the pleasure of spending a week on the Big Island.
I rented a HD Softail Classic for five days. Let me tell you, that bike was quite different from an LS650!
How I wish I could have had an S40 there instead of the Harley, but the only shop that would rent to me was the HD dealership in Kailua Kona.
Despite the bike (which was too loud, too heavy, too sluggish, and had too much vibration), I had a good time on it. I especially liked the Saddle Road and the ride up to the Mauna Kea observation station. Too bad I didn't have my S40; I would have taken it up to the Mauna Kea summit on the dirt road, something I was unwilling to do on the rental HD.
Anyway, I'm headed back to Hawaii in February for one week on Oahu and another on Maui. I'm planning on renting a Honda Shadow 750 on Maui for a week from the Island Riders folks there.
