back in the late 50s early 60s all over Europe the only CLASS bikes for racing were 125cc, 250cc, 350cc,and 500cc, 500 being the biggest it amazes me how all those classes have gone, now you can find 90s 100s 400s 600s 850s, unlimited, street bikes ,and racing bikes. Why such big bike when a well tuned 500 can go just as fast as most bikes out there ,after 500cc you need so much more engine just to get an extra 10 MPH.call me old fashioned but I prefer the old way. it's great to watch people like my Dad tweek that 350cc 7R, 110 MPH get that carb just right and you can get 120 MPH out of it , during practice my dad would follow his rider to half way up the mountain in the Isle of Man,retune the carb, (i'm not sure but I think they lean out at altitude) anyway it was what he and Sid called fine tuning, no burps going up or coming down ,6 times. As my dear old Dad used to say after I pushed a butten to start my bike, "they don't make bikes like they used to,thank god" he never owned a bike that had an electric start. :'(
