Hey guys please don't get upset ,I saw the report and lets be honest because I'm considered normal weight for my hight,I posted it. I just get pissed off when I see these lard assed people going round and round the parking lot at the grocerie store looking to get as close as they can to the front door, rather than walk, and then they get in the store and snag one of those electric riders with the big basket on the front,And there asses hanging over both sides of the seat, not a pretty sight ,then you have lard asses who's only problem is there lardassness they pull into the hanicapped parking get out and waddle into the store and get on the mini golf cart. And that is what I call Obese ,and I bet there arent any that bad on this site.

yes the ones who make no effort to change and only keep getting bigger make me mad too.....sure some might have legit medical issues that keep them from loosing (thyroid problems for one, middle age spread for another) but doing nothing about the problem and expecting society to make exceptions for them is just wrong.....The first thing i asked wifey when i got the cycle was do I look stupid on it - meaning I am I too big for the bike - she is brutally honest and she said no...when she could have said yes and i would have sold it the next day - which would have made her happy -

People EAT when theyre hungry. People are hungry when they need nutrition. Unless people eat good, healthy food, they stay a bit hungry, because something is lacking in the diet.

Couple that with the MSG & high fructose corn syrup ( walk down the aisle & read the contents in items for sale) in about everything in the stores, the  understand that not everybody HAS a body that will metabolize that crap.

Natural Spices????

Thats MSG

Justin,it get's harder and harder to find food that does not have additives,I guess fruit is ok, the bread I buy will go stale if I don't eat it on the first day I bring it home,One French baggette, very crusty.I often make my own in the winter, flour, water, salt, yeast, it warms the house up.I don't like veggies so I never eat them.farm raised fish, and rabbit once in a while.
And porrage for breakfast.

my wife read somewhere that when Europeans come to the US they gain 10-20 lbs and when Americans go to Europe the loose 10-20 lbs - because of the food supply - we have nothing but junk that puts weight on you and over there they eat a much more healthy diet.

i take drugs that cancel cheeseburgers........My Dr. is always amazed my A1C is always between 5.0 & 6.0 and my cholesterol is 130 or less......Glipizide, Actos, Allopurinol, Losartin.......i refused to take cholesterol meds - they put my total cholesterol at 70 and i felt like crap.....I told my Dr "the way i see it, i have two choices - walk 2 miles or eat 2 double cheeseburgers - i know which two i am going to choose everytime!"

I eat lots of fruit, vegs, chicken, pork & steak occassionally, eggs, bacon, 10 carb per slice whole grain/wheat bread in moderation, green tea and water - no coffee, or sodas or sweet tea, limited potatoes, sugar, rice (anything white is bad for you, carb wise)

if it comes in a bag it is probably bad for you (chips, cookies etc).......

so even though I cant walk the 2 miles or more anymore (knees & ankles totally f'd up from football)...and i eat relatively healthy the weight does not fall off like it did in my 20's and 30's...now at 50 metabolism just aint what it used to be.

I'm a bit pudgey too - 5' 11" and 190.

One thing I notice in my travels, and I do travel quite a bit in my work - people who live in big cities liike Chicago or NYC, and who have the kinds of jobs where they have to go to other places or offices during the work day aren't nearly as fat as people are around around here.

Becasue they walk - I deal with lawyers in Chicago and NY a lot.  When we go to court, or to another office for a deposition, it's always a few blocks away, and we walk unless the weather is rainy.  Same for lunch.  Here in my suburban office in Columbus, I get in the car and drive a couple of miles.  In the big cities, we walk a few blocks to an eatery.

One piece of conventional wisdom is that if you walk 10,000 steps per day, you may be a little over weight, but you won't be morbidly obese.  Figuring a 2.5 foot stride for most men walking at a normal pace, 10,000 steps would be 25,000 feet, or 4.73 miles.  Normal walking speed is about 3 mph.  That's not hustling, but it's not slogging along either.  So, 4.73 miles would take about 1.5 hours, or 90 minutes, in a day to accomplish.

Quite a bit, but not as much as you think, as every step that you take during the day counts.  As Mick said, the fat ones hunt the parking spots closest to the door - when I go to the grocery, I park at the far side of the lot and walk about 300 feet to get to the door.  Same for going to the bank, or everywhere else.

I take two walks per day - mid morning and mid afternoon, each about 20 miles long.  That's 40 minutes of the 90 minutes that I need to walk.

Try walking more - it works.
