Yeah, a real PITA. You have to fit shims under the opening and closing rockers and usually need to grind the next larger size down to suit. Closing clearance is zero so the valve is held snug (but not too tight) on the seat when cold. The opening shim is a cap on top of the valve stem and closing is a collar held by circlips. The upper rockers have to be removed to make changes; all very fiddly and time consuming. I used to have a diamond lap stone to hand finish the shims. There's no advantage of Desmo valve operation in the real world and this is more Ducati's sales signature. Back in the day when valve springs were weaker Ducati felt this was a good solution to prevent float.
