No kids here by choice, (I was away flying the first ten years and Ms. Starlifter was a career university student aquiring two masters degrees.)

Our rescue cats have more than filled the void of no children. We currently have six rescues, not so long ago we had ten....maybe 35 or 40 rescues over the years.

Vet bills have been astronomical over the years, but worth every penny.

We lost our precious "Wren" over the summer....I still dream of her at night.

I do like cats,but prefer dogs.My Dad was a big cat lover he built cat bars all over his house so the cats could walk around on them and be taller than anyone,about a foot from the sealing, One of them got hit by his step daughter coming in the driveway,he never spoke to her again. He rushed the cat to the Vets office,he told my Dad she was a gonner ,or would be within a few hours. He got a baby crib from the garage and put the cat in their next to him in bed,so he could rock her gently to sleep,she died the next morning,RIP Sheba.

i had just a new puppy a shitzu, she was already following him around mimmicing all that he did. we were in the front yard, i heard the car coming (we live in the country) the dogs were heading to the street, they split up i went aftetr the puppy and get this TC ran out in road to protect us; he stoped and stood the car down, the car hit him, he spun around the wheel well, she slammed on brakes as she never did see him. i waved her off and the dog was beyond saving. i will never forget him running out there and just standing the car down. it still is pretty hard to think about. Sad

Mr. Peanut had a round of "gut crud" the week after Thanksgiving - $314 in vet bills but he is worth way more than his weight in gold......today Bo had a similar experience but we are pretty sure we know what brought on his stomach upset and he is going to be fine without a vet visit....one day several weeks ago the wife thought Bo was dead he did not respond to her morning wake up calls.....she came in the bedroom crying saying that Bo was dead.....I immediately go in to denial and at the same time start planning a pet funeral in my mind......only to go in the den and see him setting up wagging his tail at me.....his new nickname is "possum boy"........you love them and become so attached to them that they feel like they are true extension of your own flesh & blood.......I dont need anymore animal health issues for a while 1 near death experience and 2 rounds of gut crud in 2 weeks is quite enough for a while.
