I would not try it on a motorcycle tire either, but must admit, have done it and it held up several thousand miles. The tire was brand spanking new and picked up a nail (nnNNOOOOOOOOO!) so I was too frustrated to resist.
Having used the same tool on a car tire, I was surprised at how thin and easy to punch through a motorcycle tire is.. surprised the plug had enough to hold on to. It held fine for 4,000 miles or so. I would not try that again, unless of course I had done an Oldfeller VW tire conversion.

Really can't remember how many rope/string plugs we used along the gulf coast roads after Ike scattered roofing nails all over the place - never heard of one that failed - the side walls flex too much to get a reasonable seal for very long - better than nothing how ever - depending on the circumstance. I still carry a small air comp and tire plugs in all the 4 wheeled vechls that are likely to be driven in the area.

I think because its a motorcycle tire and you only have two that keep you from coming apart in pieces if you have a blow out traveling at high speeds, I'd buy a new one. You can get away with it on a car but I'd always be thinking about the plug when riding. A $100 tire is a lot better deal than losing your life maybe.
i believe he was speaking of a car tire, am i correct?

I have used that type of plug many times before and in one case in the sidewall, every plug held fine until it was time for new tires...

+1 and that little plug doesn't know the difference between a motorcycle tire and a car tire.

Ive only seen a coupla plugs fail. They were on the rear & pulled out till they started to leak a bit due to being left a little long & hard acceleration dragged them out, but it wasnt a catastrophic failure, just a slow leak.
