Already thinking about next year's project bike
02/09/11 at 13:22:16
Got a little something today from the world's most cheerful UPS guy. It's a tank from my very first bike. (Not the actual one I had, just the same model.)
Yes, it's in rough shape, but I'm going to build a frankenbike -- 180º from the polished, anal-retentive bike I'm building now. It will be a junkyard dog. Mismatched parts. Ugly cool. Or at least ugly. Imagine if you will...
Maybe a dirt bike rear fender, or the tail from a sportbike...
Maybe something from each of the other bikes I've owned...
Oh, the possibilities.

Yes, a Yamaha tank. Or maybe I'll get one from a Hodaka.

Another eBay find. A lot less rust but more dents. And red is nice.
I'm watching a few old Suzuki tanks too. I think I'll start a gas tank collection, hang 'em on the wall.

I might have found the perfect seat. It's from a '60s Cushman. That appeals to my sense of weirdness. I wonder if they make helmets shaped like a Shriner fez.

I can tell you from first butt experience that will be a comfy seat. I rode cushmans a lot as a teen in the 60s'. Mustangs looked cooler, though!

The backwards look is why I dig it so much. The world is full of fat end first tanks. Yawn.
Yeah, you could use the bags for shooting, but they're also used in film and video production to weight down light stands. That's why I got them, but they're useful for other things, as you see.

It's off some early '60s Yamaha, the kind with the stamped steel frames.
