Blowing fuse on aftermarket starter solenoid? Help
04/27/11 at 18:25:55
86' savage running aftermarket starter solenoid with 30 amp fuse. Everytime I replace the fuse it blows. Undid the battery originally and as soon as I touched the pos wire to the battery the fuse blew... Now the ugly part. I reran the wiring harness before this and replaced stock solenoid with the fuse blowing solenoid at the same time. I'm very short on time and need a direction to start working on. Any thoughts?? Also headlight comes on when key is turned on even with blown fuse. And if I hit start button it the engine just clunks once.Thank you for your time.

guess what you got a short...
even with the original solenoid or caused by it's removal.
both sides of the fuse block is hot all the time.
Lights shouldn't be on with the fuses out.
more to come.

There's another hot wire going to the solenoid.
I'd take out the airbox and give the wiring a good look.

Thanks for the interest. Bike has no air box or panels. I welded up a 22gauge box that just goes half way up the battery. I have full power to headlight and brake light and blinkers. I put stock solenoid in today. Still no starter action, the Decomp solenoid just Clunks. Any help??

Pull the fuses and everything is dead right?

Clunks, good you got power to the button and it works. power from the decomp controler to the starter relay questionable. check it with a light or VOM.
