My question is are the threads where they attach different sizes left & right? These are and I don't know if that is stock or have there been some change by a PO?

Yamaha, for reasons known only to them, has one mirror tighten the opposite way. So if the mirrors you want don't specify they're made for Yamahas, then you're probably good.

So the mirrors aren't just mismatched but the actual stem size is? That is nuts! I know, or at least I think I do, JC Whitney sells single mirrors. The other bike in my garage is a Yamaha and the owner bought new mirrors. For the price I guess he thought he was getting two. Turned out, not so much and the specification of "left" didn't give it away. Wink

Like someone said, Yamaha, for whatever reason, has a reverse thread on one.

OK, not as bad as I thought.
I checked the mirrors yesterday. They are 2 different styles/shapes as I said. The stems or arms from the mirror head down to the threads are different sizes (different manufacturer) but the threads are the same so I don't have the problem I thought.
I just need 2 matching ones now.

That's so when the wind hits the left mirror, it tends to tighten rather than loosen, so you don't depend on the locknut so much. I had a pair of emgo mirrors that would NOT stay in position on the highway, due to wind and thumper vibration.. no matter how tight the locknut was.. had to red loctite it.

Yep, Emgo mirrors are pretty much crap. Shallow threads on the stem and the locknut. Wavy glass, poor reflective plating, thin soft chrome that rusts quickly.

Make it easy on yourself, drill the lever bolt holes out with a 5/16 bit and run HD mirrors. They replace the lever bolts and can be shimmed to make them tight if the hardware packs (included) aren't sufficient. Some lever sets don't need redrilling, some do. Only takes a couple minutes. Drill perch and lever at the same time.

Added benefit, you can grind off the cheesy stock mirror mounts.

Second added benefit? Most of the really nice, functional yet still pleasingly small mirrors are only available with HD stems. Most metric stemmed replacement mirrors have substandard "silvering", since most are made in the same factory that makes emgo's stuff. Same parts, different packaging.

Yet another treasure trove of information I found to help me replace my mirrors, only one of which will stay attached any length of time to the bike. If Emgo mirrors are el-cheapo, which make is decent for decent-quality but nothin-fancy mirrors?

I also have a set of take off Harley mirrors I want to use. Mounting them where the levers attach is the perfect solution for me...... Its free.
