That is fine gravel on packed dirt. Still hard w/o a pad, but at least it is level. A "Big Agnes" pad makes life on the ground tolerable. I hate it when I wake up down at one end or the other of the tent that is on a slope.
I prefer a hammock but was not sure if where we would wind up would have good trees for slinging it up.
When you go camping off a scooter you are "Scamping".
