Starting a "real" job...
06/02/11 at 02:48:10

Been looking since we got back down here. Need an off farm job since farming only pays during the harvest season. And heirloom/heritage pecans are cyclical, generally a good harvest every 2-3 years.

Chipper/mulcher truck. Supposedly just driving. 0630-1530 work day. I start this morning.

If it all works out I'll finally finish my respray, replace my bad ignition relay and start riding again. Have the paint, haven't had a reason to finish painting it. Need to get the bike back in service, the mini-truck I've been driving only gets 25mpg. Better than my fullsize (8-12 mpg 318 V8/3spd automatic 1969 Dodge) but still not good enough.

Not a huge fan of driving but none of the local bike shops are hiring... Wink

Good luck WD.. It seems when you
have days off, you will have plenty
around the place to keep you busy
as well. This will at least keep the
wolves away from the door.. Smiley kim

Kudos WD!  Driving can be a PIA for sure! I've been doing that for 30 years now, lately local pick-up and delivery of farm equipment, lawn mowers and the like for service and repair. It's not a bad gig until I have to wrestle a broken down piece of equipment on the trailer!

Congrats!  Glad to hear you're out there helping the economy again.

And yeah, driving for a living does have it's downside -- that must be why it's called WORK.

All the best.

Hauled 400+ cubic yards of mulch today. 4 trips, total of 112.4 miles...

Closest it gets to "work" is I have to open the rear door (hydraulic), turn on the walking floor (conveyor belt type, one of two in Memphis), bump the idle speed and release the brake. Load pushes the truck forward as the trailer empties.

120 cubic yard Trinity Mfg self-dumping trailer, basic 10 speed Mercedes powered Freightliner Columbia daycab. Load might weigh 40K pounds. Kind of a joke. I'm used to 525hp 1850 ft lb 14 liter Cummins powered Pete 378 sleeper with a 13 spd. And light road weights of 96K pounds.

It'll do.
