Z, I am like you in some way. I have 2 arms, 2 legs and love
to ride my bike.. lol..
Ok seriously, I wave at everyone as well. If they don't return
the wave, it is their loss not mine.
We did a ride for The Veterans about 3 years ago. 90% were
HD riders. The women spoke to me when we were in the restroom.
Once outside and they saw I didn't ride a HD, they snubbed me.
I again look at it as their loss and I have more cool in my lil finger
then they have in their whole body.
If I see a biker in trouble and able to stop, I do.
I have pulled over and offered a few HD riders use of my phone.
Yes it appears they have attitude..Well so do I..
I am a red head and I ride a Suzuki.. Wink
I have said it before and I will again, I ride my style of bike,
my way..I wave and again if the wave is not returned, I shrug
my shoulders and go on my way..
Now their are times I don't wave, in unsafe situations. Those I
understand.
When I rode my scooter, hardly no one waved at me..
Guess I was "scooter trash." Grin Grin kim

I don't remember calling myself a biker. I know childish behavior when I see it. I wrench alone and ride alone. Most people have no idea of the amount of fun I have riding. I do it for me. There are good and bad people in any group.  And the only people I try to impress are my wife and daughter.  Wink

Thats me too - I ride alone, and enjoy it for ME.  There are several MC rider groups here, but I'm not interested.
And thankfully I have no one to impress so its all good! Wink

Lost, I think you are confusing most of us here with another genre of riders. We are "Motorcyclists" not big bad-ass "Bikers".

We ride for pure enjoyment, not to keep up some phony image of a "bad-ass" on a Harley.

Remember the old Honda ads "You Meet The Nicest People On A Honda"?

That's us only we ride Suzuki's.

I ride alone and wave at everyone. Wave at kids on their bicycles, it makes their day. Smiley

I agree with the majority of what has been said here.... I love this group!  I've said it over and over for years... I am a motorcyclist, not a biker and have lived by the philosophy of "be true to what you own, be true to yourself, and be proud to ride it the way you choose".

Where I live is "snob" central for HD and other biker wanna-be's.  We have a huge HD dealership out next to the freeway with a Hooter's next to it so it becomes a major stop for most riders.  Especially during the summer and of course Sturgis week.  Our town is the gateway to Estes Park and the Rockies, so you get to see and experience all kinds believe me.  However, I do my thing, my way and try to be courteous, but I could care less what others think of me or my bike.  To each their own and I wish them all the best.

I wave at anybody too!  Most folks here wave, I can't even really lump together anyone who doesn't wave.  Except maybe the MC club guys, and I rarely even see any of them.  I ride by a clubhouse to and from work every day.  I've even had a couple of them wave at me if they are standing out front.  Don't see many bikes there very often though.  I dated a couple of hard-core club guys (briefly) back when I was single.  Its a rough life!  But most of them were really good guys at heart.  Just a totally different perspective on life.  But even to this day, I betcha if I was in trouble and called one, they'd be right there for me.

I was always a motorcycle enthusiast, but my hubby helped me become a motorcyclist.  And this group has turned me into something too.  Just not quite sure what!  lol  I always ride to and from work alone, but I prefer to ride with hubby, never ridden with a large group.  Have recently had some super-fantabulous rides alone, as I'm getting alot more comfortable this season.  Hubby can't seem to get to ride as often as I like.  We both rode to work last Tuesday, the 31st, and he has yet to bring his bike back home (brought his truck home instead).  I've ridden to and from work every day since!!

But... Lost...  take it all with a grain of salt, and as others have said, ride what and how YOU want.  We love ya man!

LA -

I've enjoyed our political debates on the Tall Table, and I'm with you in most of your comments here.

I don't do the "bar thing" because I won't ride any bike after even one drink or beer - motorcycles are risky enough without any degree of impairment on the part of the rider.  I treat my bike riding like I do my flying - neither is done in stormy weather, at night anymore, nor after drinking anything alcoholic.

However, I don't automatically dislike HD riders anymore than I would someone who chooses to drive a Buick.  The fact that I don't care for either of those vehicles doesn't make someone who does any more or less to me.  Each to his own - I drive a manual car, but I know I'm in the distinct minority.

Nor do I think a BMW rider is necessarily a snob; could be, but maybe he's a guy who knows and appreciates engineering, but it on two or four wheels.

Also, to whoever mentioned it, not all lawyers who ride bikes are wannabies.  A female lawyer friend of mine in Chicago has a Sportster, not a Road King, and is a very down to earth person.

I've talked to a lot of folks who own HDs as their first bikes.  They made that choice for many of the same reasons they may buy a Ford or GM car - they don't really know engineering, dealers are plentiful if you have a problem on the road, and maint. shops are everywhere that can work on them.  If you're not a wrench yourself, like I am not, accessibility to maint. shops can be very important to a buyer.  That's one reason I bought my S40 rather than a new Royal Enfield.  Even though I love the heritage of RE, and their new bikes are reasonably reliable, the nearest RE dealer is 60 miles from me.

Have fun.

If your rideing because of what other people will think of you or to belong to some 'click', your rideing for the wrong reason.

My firm philosophy is i ride and do things for MY SELF. Someone dont like what i ride or how i do things to suit myself they can go take a short leap off a tall cliff.
It annoys the he11 out of me when people run their lives because of what other people will think of them. My mothers like that, ex wife got that way to. They say im rude n crude. But i open doors for old ladies, respect others ways of life and wave at other riders. So i cant be to rude n crude...lol
Keeping up with the jones will put you in the poor house.
Do your thing and dont worry about what anyone else is doing unless it affects your way of life.

Ride to live, live to ride, ride your OWN ride.
Someone dont like it, to he11 with them.

Technicly im a motorcyclist. But its a bike to so guess im a biker as well. Dont dis my ride, leave my money, women, food n family alone and you wont find out how bad a$$ i can be...lol

I don't dislike "bikers".  I think dressing up in all the GEARTM is a little silly, but if that's what you like ...

I wave back at everybody.  If they don't wave it doesn't hurt my feelings anymore than if i meet a fellow subaru driver who doesn't wave!
I initiate the wave if i meet someone on a cold, rainy or otherwise miserable day on the way to work - i figure they're kind of like me Smiley

I just stopped with the "everyone who rides is my brother".  For me, "everyone who rides is my cousin.  I have few brothers, and lots of cousins.  Some of them are pretty weird, there's a lot of 'em I'd never loan any serious money to, but I sure like seeing them at family events.

As for brands and attitudes, well, it's a big marketplace out there, and if one brand floats your boat and another doesn't, that's just personal taste.

And don't forget to give a toot on the horn. Then their parents will see you and wave back. It's a contagious kinda thing.  Smiley

Or experience... I know I'll never buy a post-64 HD again and expect it to be a decent bike. 65-69 models are tolerable, 70 and newer are a waste of materials. I might buy one, but it will be the backup bike.

I really like Kawasaki v-twins, except for the 800 Classic, either 900, any flavor of 1600.

I like the Savage and the C50T, the rest of Suzuki's line up leaves me cold.

Honda VLX600 is a nice bike. The rest of the line up does nothing for me. Killing of the mid-90s ACE and Aeros was a really dumb idea, the VTXs are junk.

Only Yamaha I'd own is a 60 spoke wire wheeled XS650.

I know a lot of Harley riders that are good regular folks! It's the "Harley Lemmings" out there spending their money trying to buy their reputation that I have the beef with! I don't do the bar to bar stuff, I dress in jeans and plain grey t-shirts and I RIDE! If they don't like it, they got three other directions to look!

I live in a tiny little town (we don't even have a traffic light) in the woods. Lancaster is about a 4 hour drive South East from me.  Clearfield is a bigger town near me. DuBois is the town with the Harley shop.

my grandma used to always rent a cabin at Treasure Lake in Dubois for a week in the summer - good times!  That place has really changed in the last 30 years!  first time we went it was  secluded at the far end, last time it was houses side by side all the way around the lake!

My wife bought a little bike when she was 16. She is a very outgoing person and while studying art in Toronto she lived in a co-op residence. On evening a group of Satan's Choice from New York stopped and asked her for directions. Much to the consternation of the other girls in the house she invited them in and made them coffee, got a street map out, and showed them where they wanted to go. As they were leaving one of them gave her a card with the NY chapter number on it and said " If you're down our way and get in ANY kind of trouble, even with the cops, call this number and we'll help you out."
