FSO status now
06/12/11 at 18:16:46

I was in the local dealership and ran across this leftover Brand New V-Star Classic...I really liked my S40 but the V-Star was easier to ride Two Up...I am not in a position that I could keep the S40 and buy a new bike...The V-Star is an 09  and the deal was super red hot...So It came home with me...It is a 650 also so no upgrade in engine size...Actually feels a little slower...However the classic style is more to my favor...The S40 handled the twisties better than this bike...The V-Star has some really cool comfort though...So anyways I am now an FSO and I hope I dont get kicked out of the coolest forum I have found...

yeah,  i sat on both at the dealership, jumped back & forth for a while before finally picking the s40 at the time the yamaha seemed a little better "fit n finish", but the suzi had better "git up n go".  I'm guessing the s 40 is also easier to fix. ( Also I'm kinda cheap and the suzi was a little lower in $$ if i remember)

in what way is 2 up easier?

matter of preference i guess - looks nice! good luck with it

The S40 is cheaper and does have better take off...The V-Star has a bigger seat for the passenger and my wife is less cramped in the legs with the V-Star...The V-Star has a warranty so I wont be doing any fixing for awhile...I am not sure which is easier to work on, I would guess that the S40 would be at least due to how easy it is to access every thing...I didn't lose much on trading the S40 other than the Ed L controls I had installed...I had also moved the rear backrest back about three inches, to help with passenger comfort on my S40...So someone will get a nice bike...

I think for your application/needs you made a good call. I think theyre good bikes, slower, but steady & dependable, excellent for 2 up. I hope Im right!

Nice Bike there man ... I know a few people you Ride the Star 650 and like 'em.

As for bein' a FSO, don't worry ... several Members here are (m'self included), but the way I see it, once a Savage owner, always a Savage owner ... that 'lil Thumper becomes part of your soul! So like The Eagles say, "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"!!

You silly Ogre, you can't get away from us that easy!   Wink

Good looking bike, love the white.  I looked at several V-Stars myself, was considering the "custom" verson, smaller front fender, little lighter.  Just couldn't bring myself to trade for one.  I'm so attached to my little piglet.  lol

Anyway, as has been said, please stick around.  The wealth of knowledge on this board is not limited to Savages.  We're family!

Congrats!  Nice bike!  There are times I really miss my 1500 Intruder, so I kinda understand why the V-star was so tempting.  But in the end, the Savage is a much better all-round bike for my needs right now.  I haven't ridden two-up yet and doubt if I will very often.   No need to "run away" just yet....you'll be back someday.  Wink  lol

Welcome to the club. You'll probably want to check out http://www.yamahamotorcycleforum.com/

Great bunch over there too.

BTW, I also have a raven '09 V-Star 950T. Great bike!! And I kept my Savage as a spare, since nobody wants to pay much for one. Worth more to me as a back-up than I can get for it. Cool

Nice bike! If I ever go to a twin cylinder, I would get a V Star Classic. I like them.  Wink

Almost bought one back in 98, then found the Savage. Already had the loan paperwork for the Yammie, called them and changed what I was buying.

Still kicking myself for passing on the 99 Drifter 1500. But, someday I'll have one of each Drifter (800 and 1500), a 1500 Classic (stock 1999 black if possible), another VN800A, Pokey (my Savage)  and the Hondas for backup (my 63 CL72 custom and a VT1100 ACE).

Everyone needs 7 street legal bikes. Right...? One for each day of the week so it doesn't get mundane.

Holy smokes, did ya swipe that turn-out off a semi?! Shocked Great lookin' setup.

And WD, there's no such thing as too many bikes; unfortunately there's such a thing as not enough money. Sad
