I'd take the triumph and change the seat color. Looks like a good deal.

I'd almost give you a "DUDE! Just pick a bike already, and be happy with it!"  ..if I had not gone through 4 bikes in as many years.  I'm pretty settled on the DR650 though.

So just cut to the chase and get a DR650  Cheesy

I don't know why, but I absolutely love Old BSAs and Triumphs. I have always thought their sound was definitely better imo than Harleys.

Go for the Triumph. Leave the seat as is, adds character.

S83 is just a cosmetically revamped 1400 Intruder. Common and boring.

Oh Lost, you're killing me!  The America is my dream bike and that looks like a great price, even though its an '03. (I check them out on ebay all the time, just to drool)  Don't see the mileage listed anywhere, but it wins by a landslide for me.  Seat isn't really my taste, but it looks like a very nice after-market add-on.  For the right deal, it could grow on me or I'd change it.

Both are nice bikes. Which ever one you decide on,
should bring you many miles of enjoyment.

Before ya do anything, look into the basic maintenance procedures.
If I was just goin with GUT, Id lean toward the Triumph, but I wouldn't go for it til I did some homework, customer complaints, maintenance issues,, etc.

they sold the Triumph already so I test rode the S-83, and I wasn't overwhelmed, at 0-60 or so my S-50 does a ton better and is way more fun. and the vibrations at above 60 - 70 at least are the same as my S-50

and the clutch was sticky so it kinda ruined my test ride, hard to get going in 1st without just popping the clutch.

think I'll just get my S-50 tuned up.

That American is not going to sound like the old Triumphs. It fires at 270 degrees instead of 180. I like the 270 better for sound and has more low end power. My 1983 Suzuki GR 650 was 270 firing.

JOG2, I'm with you on that, but I'm just wishing...not buying. I have a doctor who has a 1997 959? or something. He is 70 and getting a little afraid of his abilities, so he is debating whether to spend $1100 on a spark unit to make it run. Problem is his wife bought it for his birthday years ago. So he has to be careful about fixing OR selling. Undecided

Bill, I know what you mean. That's why I said the old Triumphs in my post. The mc magazines are all over the Triumphs and Ducs. I think they both look like a mc should, running or not.  Smiley
