Demo ride
06/17/11 at 19:53:55

Rode one of these today. Almost 700 pounds, over 170 rear wheel horsepower, 0-60 in THREE seconds flat. 1/4 mile in 10.30 at 136.44. Felt like I might suck the bike in front of me right into one of those huge air intakes. WOW!!!

I have read that it's capable of smoking the rear tire through the first four gears.  I didn't feel the front wheel try to come up although it can't be too tough if you're trying.
At just under $20k I won't be buying one soon.  Just wanted to try one.

I could seriously crash one of those... Huh...

The problem with bikes like that, is... they are useless at any legal speed...
Kinda' like owning your own personal bazooka... Huh...

That ,, I like that!  Finally a way to describe how I feel about hot rod cars & bikes. If I had as much fun driving as I do riding Id be in jail, but I dont have to be illegal on the bike to have fun,

Its sad that my new driving "fun" is seeing how many MPG I can wring out of it.

I can't get my leg over them V-Maxes would love to try one someday but not safe for shorty me. do the scoops on the new model actually do something?

the FZ8 was cool but a bit disappointing after my buell, the fz8 has no balls, but I'm not used to riding inline 4s so maybe it's just me

Here's the VMax

I also rode an FZ8, the newest Yamaha, and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Very versatile all around motorcycle.  Lost, MCNews shows the FZ8 slightly quicker to 60mph (3.51 vs 3.63) and about the same through the quarter mile (11.55 @ 115.71 vs 11.54 @ 118) as a Buell XB12s.  Remember these things rev almost twice as high as the bikes you're used to and that's where they make their power.

I have no doubt that the FZ8 is a better bike than I give it credit for, that was my first time ever on an inline 4 so I have no idea how to really wind them up to experience that power. idk, like I said, it's just me, I was probably abusing the engine by shifting too soon or something. just felt too smooth like there wasn't an engine there . . . but that's what demo rides are for, to try out things and see how they feel. so far my favorite has been a Victory Vegas but the Triumph Bonneville is a close second and half the price  Smiley

I'm tempted to get an older vMax with the lower seat height (about 2 inches lower too), you can find some really good deals on those

Did you happen to ride a speedmaster when you ride the bonneville? How did the two compare? If you didn't ride the speedmaster, what did you like best about the bonneville?
