just looking for opinions on exhausts. i want to get rid of the stock muffler and just basically want to know my options. i know there are harley mufflers that work, or dragpipes such as blue collar bobbers. any suggestions on a good brand at a descent price. I dont want a megaphone looking exhasut, im not to conscerned about it being too loud either.
thanks for any help everyone.
by the way, i have an 86 that i picked up for a couple hundred bucks that i am in the process of taking apart.

There is a VAST amount of exhaust info here. Get familiar with the search engine and dig in - you can even hear samples. Have fun!

I hope you like to play with carburetors.

the carb wont be an issue. i have a good friend that can help me out there.
I guess what i was really asking, is what brand, style of muffler or straight pipe people on here have used, what they like, dont like. what else they have had to do by using a specific product. is there brands to stay away from, or things like that.

If are not too impecunious, you might check out the Raask. It is a complete system, not just a slip-on, and will cost about $450 with the shipping, but it looks great and sounds good. too.
You will have to rejet. I use a 55 pilot with bleed holes. Raask recommends a 155 main, but I run a Dial-a-jet with a 150 main.
Major increase in hp and torque.

The carb will be an issue. When you change the back pressure, you will change what the carb needs to be doing. If you have a magician that can wave his/her wand and make the carb perfect, you are a lucky boy.
Failing that, you will need to be aware of rejetting, the white spacer mod, the transient enrichment valve, and the idle screw adjustment.
Also, it would be a very good idea to start off the process with a thorough cleaning.
Best of luck to you,...

There are a few direct fit cans for the Savage, but not a whole lot. I f yer good with some fabrication, then there's no real limit besides what ya can pull off.

I just ordered a new muffler, I'm going with an Emgo Reverse Cone Shorty style. I can't wait to install it and hear the new sound.

That one is LOUD and trebly. (High pitched) Hope you like it. Please give us "review." Better yet, put a short clip on Youtube showing how it sounds at idle, then when revved up, then have a buddy use the camera on you while you ride by.

I first heard it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiiUEjO8znY
But I think it's the same one used on the Ryca builds, at least the same style. One nice thing is that it is repackable.
I'll definitely review it and report back. If I can get a good enough sound of it recorded, I'll do that as well...
