Yeah, had to smile at that title. 41 going on 12.
Anyway, I picked up a little box of different sized plugs to cover the vacuum but they aren't neoprene/ gas resistant. They didn't have any like that.
Will this end up being eaten by the gasoline?

I'm not positive but the vacuum shouldn't have any gas in it. If it does, then you got bigger problems.

I've had no luck with them...
I found a screw that threaded into the nipple, then covered it with a rubber plug to look pretty...
No damage to nipple, still reversible, and no chance of rot...

Cut tube short close to carb and screw in (in the tube) the biggest, longest screw you can, grease with RTV first. Metric M6 I think does the job.

Thanks, gents. I did a temp job on the hose (cut it, siliconed, folded, zip tied) and I think I'll look for a screw that fits and then plug & cap later.

I used a small rubber screw thread protector. It fit nice and tight, sealed perfectly, and looks clean.

Thread procter! Awesome idea!
I'm cheap!
I cut the factory hose at the nipple about a 1/4 taller than the nipple. Then I cut a tiny piece of black plastic bag, folded it in half as to double layer it. Layed it over the hole and down the nipple. Slid the cut hose over and put the factory spring clip back on.
I call it my heart beat cause you can see the vacuum pushing at the bag.
Cheap and works. For now anyway.

I use a regular automotive vacuum line plug. They come either 1 in a pack, various sizes, or in multipacks, various sizes. Cheap, fits snugly on nipple. Works great. Can be had at any auto parts store.

So,
I'll bet your temp fix looks a lot like my
permanent
one:
I squeezed a bit of silicone sealant into the hose first.

Yep, I found your old post and did the same. Thanks, BTW.
