I rented a DitchWitch one time that was capable of cutting a 3ft trench and seemed very cheap at $150 for a half-day, at least compared to all that digging. I got into some rocks that pretty much beat the hell out of the machine, I would have died if I had to chip them all out with a pickaxe.

Refilling the trench should be a cinch with the family tractor Wink

Well, we lucked out in a major way this weekend. Hubby has a friend who works for a drilling company (he used to work for hubby, we actually got him the job with the drilling company, better money lol) and they were using an excavator on a job only about 30 miles from our camp. They didn't finish Friday, which meant they had to keep it over the weekend. He asked his boss if he could borrow it for the weekend and the boss said sure! So we got the trench dug in just a few short hours! Did a few more odds and ends with it, I even got to play on it a little. Worked our butts off all weekend, sweated like pigs, my whole body hurts! But we got the conduit set and almost ready for inspection. Until hubby knocked the meter base cover onto his face and cut a big gash right under his eye! But he's ok.

Gotta tell you this... This must have been farmland back in the day, because down deep, the dirt smelled like manure! We stunk so bad on the way home, the drive-thru gal in Wendy's closed the window after taking our money. When she opened it back up, I said "I'm sorry we stink, we been workin'!" She laughed and said that's ok.
