idle speed related to backfire?
10/19/11 at 15:28:02
Hi all. Just wanted to share a recent experience and possibly get feedback. With the weather starting to cool off, the bikes been idling a little low, especially at start up. Today I turned the idle speed up a little and it made start up a lot easier. The interesting thing was that when I took off on it, I noticed that my engine backfire was completely gone. I usually get a little popping on decel and sometimes while shifting. What give's? The only thing I can think of is that more fuel is being delivered when the throttle is closed, but this should be a fuel/ air mixture issue, right?, not an idle speed issue. Anyone else have experience with this? Anyone think there is any problem with this type of cure for backfire? Just to reiterate, I only adjusted the idle speed screw, not the low idle mixture screw under the brass plug in the carburetor

I wouldn't count on the backfire being gone for good just yet.
I've had mine quit the backfire for a ride or 2, and. for no reason, but it doesn't last. And I'm glad it don't. Its a trade mark on the Savage.

change in weather will affect your carb adjustment.
there's a tech post on it.

Only if you would let throttle go completely like for example when going down a hill in 5th.
