My grandfather's illustrations from WWI.

My grandfather was a dispatch rider in WWI. He was also a commercial artist and did a series of twelve humorous pictures about things that happened to him. I use these as teaching aids to illustrate the conditions of the war. They were all done in 1919 with sepia ink and brush, with white quash for the highlights. We can relate to a lot of these situations ourselves in one way or another. The bike, which he had to supply himself, was a Triumph Model H, 1913.
They are all self explanatory

He had to provide his own bike? Good thing he wasnt a tank driver, or Captain of a Big Ship..
Did the Generals have to provide their own armies?

He did draw some neat stuff,, glad youve been able to keep them looking so nice.
I likie watching Antiques Roadshow & Pawn Stars. Get to see some Old Stuff, & the back story often makes the value of the item much greater.. Cool stuff, cool story. I wonder what the Auction Value would be.. not that you'd sell,, but you mite want to insure them.

Thanks Arizuno. My love for thumpers started with this:

It was a 1937. I bought it from the original owner in '65, spent a year rebuilding it, and drove it for a season. Wish I still had it. :'(

May I translate the tech specs of the Bullet as listed by the brochure :

MODEL SUPER SPORT "500 BULLET" 4 VALVE OHV (5CV meaning the tax class)

Engine 499cc. Especially tuned engine. Bore x stroke 84 x 90.
Valves moved by rockers. Double exhaust. Lubrication by continuous circulation of oil (=oil pump).
Amal carburetor operated by twist grip action. Extra reinforced frame. 4 speed egarbox with foot-selector (lever) (not hand lever) Primary chain transmission inboard in oil bath. Tires 26 x 3.25.
Color black & chrome.

Price, with dynamo magneto, front lamp by Lucas and voltage regulator, 8350 French Francs.

I had translated it myself using a French-English dictionary but your translation is much more fluent than mine, and more correct.
It had two plugs too- one in the center and one to the side.
You could take the headlight and muffler off in a couple of minutes and convert it to a trials bike that way. Hence the higher exhaust.
The original owner special ordered it from England at a R.E. dealer in Toronto. The mufflers rusted out so fast you bought them by the case of 12. He had lost the fish tails and it was LOUD without them. I had to use a carb from an Interceptor (their 750 twin).
I had it up to 92 mph as clocked with a friend driving beside me, (it had no speedo) but it was very scary at that speed, so I only did it once. (you think the savage vibrates!) Grin
