I can remember doing that !!!
I'd put a rooster tail 1/32 oz on an ultralight spincaster, flip the little bugger out into the lake, let it sink a bit then reel it in just fast enough to make the spinner spin (it sank a good bit deeper that way).
Whap !! Hand the rod over to my daugher and let her giggle them on in.
She loved fishing, she always caught lots of stuff -- most of which was too small to keep so we'd toss them back in to grow up some more.
No worms -- spinner baits only !!!
Little girls have icky standards about things they won't touch, you know.
This system worked fine for bream and small bass -- but a big catfish came up from the depths and swallowed up her little fishie one time and she couldn't hold on to the rod.
(I was told in no uncertain terms "This one is Daddy work, you take it")

Thats precious,, how old was she? & If you say 25,, I quit,,
About the same age as the little girl shown. When she was 8-9 when I gave her her first pistol & holster and started taking her shooting pine cones.
When she was 19, a stalker followed her into the RR tunnel at NCState University and had started moving in on her, until he heard the flick/click and blade flash from her serrated hooked bill Spiderco knife as she turned to face him.
He did a 180
o
turn and ran .... her knife was bigger and she obviously knew how to use it.
At 25, she was married and had a job designing Link Belt cranes. She was married already and had already purchased her first house.

Oh no fish is not on her very small list of stuff she will eat. But I sure enjoyed me some.

Very cool!
Mom's got a pic of me like that, when I'm 10 years old, holding (with help from Dad) a 3 foot long 12 lb Northern Pike I caught on my little Zebco rod. Dang thing was within an inch or so of being as tall as I was!
I haven't gone fishing much since I moved up here (too many confusing regulations!), but I keep thinking I'm gonna have to find someplace the fish bite.

and remember it to this day..
Nice you were able to enjoy her catch.
