Heat shield question
05/28/12 at 08:19:28
Since the HD muffler is a different size than the stock muffler, which size heat shield should I get to cover the ugly joint? I am leaning towards 1.75" x 7" long. Or should I get the 2" shield?

The OD of the connection on the Savage is 1.75" - the fatter portion of the pipe is 2.00". The Harley muffler OD is about 1-7/8". I don't know what kind of adapter or clamp you used.
I would think the 2" would work best.

Thanks! That makes sense to me! No adapter just slits in the HD muffler and a Harley clamp.

The shield I ordered from JC Whitney wouldn't clamp right, so I just twisted wire on the back side. Holds great and doesn't show.

I left the stock shield on to cover the joint and I think it actually fits the look very well.

I have been considering that as well. I ordered a 2". I will put each on and see which I prefer. Thanks for the photo!

This is with the stock heat shield. When my other one comes in I will show the difference.

I'm having the same issue, so would it be best to get a 2' shield or another original? I had to chuck my original as it was bent pretty bad.
I also plan on adjusting the jets this weekend, I've been getting too much backfire. It's kinda fun but probably not good for the engine or muffler. hehe

Where did you order a different size heat shield from?

If you are running the Harley muffler, I think an aftermarket 2" shield looks better. It is up to you though.

That stock shield fits like socks on a rooster once the OEM trashcan muffler is gone.

Yes, I have a Harley Dyna muffler. That 2" is exactly the clean look I want. Where did you find that?
