Depending on the media used you should be ready to paint.
When I had access to my shop's sandblaster I used 80 grit aluminum oxide. It left a great finish for paint/powder coat to adhere to.
Blast the part, bath in isopropyl, spray. Comes out great.
Make sure you clean the inside of the tank really well. Even if you mask it off for the sandblast. Take the tape off and flush it out twice.

Great results !! Sweet bike also !! How did you do your rear fender ?

And BTW, of what I know, a car paint job takes about a month to completely ''dry''. Top coat is dry to touch but undercoat might still have solvents wich makes paint less resistant. So yes, as gyrobob said, letting the tank sit in the garage for a while after painting might be a good idea IMO

As long as there is enough clear coat you could wet sand it perfectly smooth and then buff it back out, In my opinion though I have found that if you do wet sand and buff it seems like the rich deep color is gone and it doesnt look wet as sprayed, just my opinion though

Yes it will work over duplicolor base coats, one can might do 2 tanks depending on size and depth.
Last job was a ghost flame job on a Sportster tank and bobber rear fender with one can.
