Hauling S-40 6,000 miles

My bro is going on a long leisure trip from MI out west and south, towing a TT and will be hauling his s40,... kinda to use in place of a car, and to take a ride here in Gods country w/ me ! Grin

While I could never see myself even being capable of loading mine on a 1/2 ton pickup, is there any bad things that can/will happen from hauling that many miles,.....like flat wheel bearings ?

Any thoughts ?

Just dont try to crush the forks as far as possible when tying it down. Just get the bike secured. Tie the read end so it cant scoot side to side. If the front end is against the front of the bed, its not going anywhere. No need to tie it down like its a living monster determined to regain its freedom,
Theres a reason motorcycle tie downs dont have ratchets on them.

Cheap and easy to install in the back of a pick-up. Yeah; Harbor Freight is a perfect place for stuff like that....
Anything like that will add a lot of stability to the front end, and you won't need to strap it down nearly so tight either. Definitely strap down the rear end of course, but even on shorter trips I've seen front ends slip from side to side.

Whatever he does DO NOT put down the kickstand!!

Tho, I gotta admit, watching a Harley tumble 3 feet to the ground with a coupla fat guys scramblin to try to stop is kinda funny.

I had to find a way to safely load and unload the bike by myself and that was the cheapest and easiest thing I could come up with.

That happened to me last year when I was unloading. The board didn't slide completely off the tailgate so I got the bike unloaded okay but it made me a little nervous. So I drilled a couple small holes in the tailgate and drove a nail through each 2x4 that fits in the holes. So it's not going anywhere now.
