Clogged carb jets...

OK, this is not Savage,

but I was helping a friend who let his Suzi (rf600r) sit for over five years.

The carbs were really bad, so I took the jets out and soaked them in in a cleaner. (It's a 4-cyl, so there are 12 jets total: main, slow and starter per cyl)

I was able to get three of the main jets clean OK, but the rest wouldn't budge. I couldn't even push a needle thru the large one...

Would putting then in the oven make sense, and if so, what temp? Or should I just buy the nine new?

I shared that opinion, till I tried it,,the backhoe had a hard knock & I had used several injector cleaners & none made any noticeable change, then, I dumped SeaFoam in it,& I noticed a change in about 5 minutes,, it took several more doses to solve it, but now, that CLack that made me wince is GONE,, it sounded like a rod was comin out,, now, it just sounds like a diesel,

Believe what ya want, but Seafoam does something, at least in some places.

If I wanted something that actually had some solvent value, I'd go look for something like Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) or acetone. Seafoam has nothing in it but lighter fluid and isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, and as such is no better than E-10. The Pale Oil in Seafoam isn't much for a solvent. The original poster said he couldn't even clear the jets with a needle, so I doubt ANY solvent is likely to do the job.

OK, the bike's running now.

I looked for an ultrasonic cleaner on craigslist, and as luck would have it, there was a listing for a garage sale on (past) Sunday offering it several blocks away.

I got it for $4 (Sharper Image), and after several 5-min rounds in the Gunk Carb Cleaner (from a spray) liquid, I had a couple of the smaller jets opening up. Then I used a thin wire (from a steel? cable) to poke at them, and got them all clear.
