got on my bike this morning and got nothing from the pushing of the starter button. battery seems ok, headlight is bright I mean. Clutch is engaging properly. So I was wiggling the wires coming from the little black box under the clutch handle and there was a click. noticeable. and it fired right up. so my question is does the switch under the handle need replacing or can I just bypass it or what?

You should be able to replace it.
some don't care for safeties, but you may appreciate it one day.
check you have good connections and no broken wires.

You can bypass it - but then you'll be able to start in gear. No big deal since we all used to be like that a few years ago. You just have to pay attention. And seeing as how you ride a bike you need to do that anyway.

The switch may not be what's wrong, it could just be corroded connections. If it's fine now, that's all it was.
