Those tiny batteries are quite the thing for cafe racers, a la RYCA because it is considered cool to have the area aft of the cylinder head as vacant as possible. On a bike like a RYCA, you can tuck the little thing up in the tailpiece or down underneath the forward part of the swingarm, take out the battery box, and have nothing but airspace between the tire and the air filter.
