I have a stock 2011 S40 with 5,300 miles on it. I've gone 97 MPH on a flat. remote highway, testing how fast it can go. But I won't do that again because that's a little crazy -- even though it's fun.

I routinely ride 75 - 80 MPH on I-10 here in Phoenix. One needs to go that fast because the cages are doing 80 easy.
The bike has no problem doing 75 - 80, but I think 80 really should be the top-end for it: 1) you want to keep a little left in play in case you need to shoot past something; 2) one mistake and you're toast; and 3) you don't want to beat the machine to death.
If you want to head out on the open highway for something like interstate travel, I think a bigger bike would prudent -- like a Suzuki C50 (

I'm very happy with my S40, though. It's my first bike, and I'm keeping her.
