The dreaded petcock question

First:
I changed the petcock and I COULD NOT believe how much better it's running. It almost sound like it was missing or something before. Steady put put now.

Second:
I followed the link and , yep, got the China knock off with the smaller size outlet.

I went to the auto parts and pick up a rubber hose size change thingy.
It fit nicely on the nipple and the regular line's spring clamp worked on the thingy.

I read the long thread where some guys improvised and used the smaller size.

Has anyone had extended experience with using the smaller size?

I used one from a 250/350 Raptor for a while... it had the smaller outlet, and shorter stem... The stem interfered with mounting, so I had to file a small divot into the tank seam to clear... (this could have been a bit dangerous and caused a leak, but, it didn't in my case)...
As far as the quantity of flow,... I wouldn't worry... and I never had a problem with that...
SO,.. just see if yours will mount without leaking,... if it does... you should be okay using it...

I am using a factory Yamaha petcock from a 350 on my Cafe' bike. The shorter stem will work better as the fuel tanks is very low. The outlet size is 1/4" instead of 5/16" of the Raptor 660. I really don't believe it will have too little flow - as it is the same petcock as used on the YAMAHA XVS650. I am sure that bike uses more fuel than our bike can.

The concern that was brought up in another thread is the ability of air to get trapped in the smaller fuel hoses - which does limit flow when the bubbles get trapped. This appeared to be a significant problem when installing an inline fuel filter and routing the tubing with bends and angles.

I think we have created a misunderstanding for some noobie members, by referring to this simply as a Raptor petcock...
A Raptor, isn't a type of petcock...
It is a manually operated petcock,... that comes off of a Yamaha Raptor 660 ATV 3-wheeler... (it just happens to fit our bikes perfectly)...
.. the Yamaha part number is 5LP-24500-01-00...
So, the brand is always Yamaha...

For short,.. we say Raptor petcock...

...(the Chinese have started making a rip-off replacement for it,... and often seem to mislabel them as being for a 660cc model, but they are actually copies of a smaller ATV petcock...)...
The safe bet,.. is to buy the Yamaha brand... for the Raptor 660cc model... part number 5LP-24500-01-00...
