Religion is steered by a few semi religious/semi political "father figures".

The quran apparently seems to be a document very similar to the old testament with a bit of the new - no idea, not read either of those 3 ... the various off shoots of these 2 religions interpret them in various ways ... making it extreme or non extreme.

Yea one more religion known for peace - Buddhism - apparently has a violent and extreme wing. Those people beat and killed get this - muslims in Burma recently.

Hinduism - My religion had been strictly interpreted by Gandhi and a few others as a definitely non violent religion. The extreme factions of hinduism if there were any had no sway in India for a few 100 years. But ... how is it going now ... not too well. We have several extreme factions - shiv sena and a few others interpret it to be violent.
