TICK TICK TICK Noise

I recently purchased a 2013 S40 (Feb) and have only changed 3 things on the first oil change @ 750 miles
K&N Oil Filter
NGK DPR8EIX-9 Iridium IX Spark Plug
Motul 300V 4T Full Synthetic Double Ester Oil

Bike was running amazing after that

A friend of mine was cruising the bike when he had stopped in 3rd gear & tried to take off again without down shifting. He stalled the bike & while still rolling started it back uo, down shifted & rolled on

Since then there seems to be a higher pitched "tick tick tick tick" noises the whole time. I haven't noticed any real change in performance but being a noob to riding & owning a bike I am a little concerned Undecided

Any thoughts or is this just something that happens after the breaking period?

Bogging down a new engine is not preferable from what I have read here from the seasoned riders... Sad

I guessed as much, I just got my bike in March and am new to the site as well. I have discovered being on the wrong side of topics such as oil, tire pressure and something called Seafoam can lead to stabbing Grin

The links talk about the specific needs of the Savage engine having to do with the tappet valves and such. Definitely worth a quick review. Have a great day!!

They's a lot of big stuff turning inside the LS. I lean down behind the windshield when it is safe around 60mph, raise my face shield and listen to the sewing machine under the tank. Now when I think I hear something I just do that and continue on. I will say that that Rotella made my valve train quieter, but the Castrol worked fine before, so I don't care. I received a PM from another member who said Rotella seemed to make his quieter. We didn't talk heat, speed, zinc, etc. Just personal experience.

I know that Motul 300v competition has 1200ppm of ZDDP, but the only data sheets I could find for Motul 300V 4T Full Synthetic didn't have ZDDP listed. PMo85 try to find out if the 300 4T has ZDDP and if so what it's levels are, it's been debated as to what the minimum ZDDP ppm is needed for the LS650 ranging from 800ppm to 1500ppm.

I spend 10 minutes trying to find ZDDP info on the Motul 300 4T and couldn't find any on any discussions or data sheets I found on that specific oil.

Is the Motul oil you are using a 5w-30? I looked onlie and that is the oil viscosity that was listed for the Motul 300V.

If so.....I am not surprised tha the ticking increased somewhat if the previous oil as a 10W-40. Also with your bike being new and the clearances changing as the parts break-in, the engine is likelly to need the valve lash adjusted to make things like they used to be.

I assume it is still under warranty.......so just ride it and put some miles on it......and don't focus on the little Tic,Tic, Tick, Tac that the engine makes. These are big, primitive parts and they do make some noise. I had a Kawasaki 250 enduro before the Savage....and the engine on it was incredibly siilent compared to the Savage.

Also what is the viscosity of the oil you are using?

ZDDP is Zinc dialkyldithiophosphates. And it has some. All oils have it. Many do not have enough for the Suzuki savage, S40.
