1st. ever "New" tractor

Ordered a "New" tractor today. Tongue

I finally got tired of used stuff , and ordered a new one.

Come to find out JD 5000E series tractors are all the same motor but the H.P. rating runs from 75HP down to 45Hp. ... Go figure ??? everything is the same except the HP ratings .

So :

Either they have a 75Hp top-end beating on a 45Hp bottom-end Tongue

or
They have a 45 Hp top-end beating on a 75Hp bottom-end ? Lips Sealed

The dealer says the difference is the amount of air and fuel that gets into the engine. But that still don't change the fact that the crankshaft size is the same on the 45,55,65,and 75 HP. models. If I had heavy pulling to do I'd go for more Hp but just working with hay I'm opting for the 45HP model w/front end loader of-course . Looks like this one.

I will take a poke at the answer -- ya'll adjust for reality as needed.

First fact -- it is a diesel engine. The exact SAME diesel engine in all physical aspects.

The engine block and bore size and stroke are the same on all the models. All of them compress the air to 20:1 in order to superheat the air for ignition purposes. All of them do the same compression stroke for each cycle.

What differs is the amount of diesel fuel injected and the RPM speed that it is governed for -- and if it is turbocharged/supercharged or not.

Simplicity says go 45 hp and get the plain jane version. Less to break, less to require maintenance. Less stress on the engine. Less costly fuel wise to run.

Now let's see how close I really came to the truth.

We have two John Deeres, the biggest we could get with hydromatic transmissions. Both have quick hitches and quick change buckets. This works great for changing to the bale spear as well as a few other forward implements.

I couldn't tell you which exact model, but knowing the army it was probably the cheaper 45 hp one. I can tell you this: it's plenty quick, got lots of torque, and it'll keep on running if you beat it up and don't take care of it.

You don't really need much to haul wood chips at 60 to 70 MPH.

I have a backhoe with a 3 cylinder,around 32HP diesel. It weighs about 13,000 pounds,doesn't use much fuel And is strong enough to drag itself backwards with the bucket turned backwards,digging into the dirt while the"jacks" are down,holding the rear tires off the ground.

That HP article was interesting .

It made me go look at the weight(s). They all four HP rating are the same weight 5070Lbs. and the engines are all 2.9L (3 cylinders) engines. The Hydraulics are all 18.2 GPM. They all have a 18.0 gal fuel tank.
And
What surprised me most was they are all Turbocharged ! Huh

3 point lift is 3,192 lbs. on all of them , They all take the same Front-end loader 3967 lbs. max lift.

My round baler only needs 30Hp (600 lb Bale), and my Drum cutter only needs 30HP so Hp is more that enough .

OldFeller , I think your right --- the amount of fuel and RPM rating is the difference, The HP rating ain't gonna matter !
Its still an odd fact ! Tongue

The 45 HP is up in the $27,000 neighborhood and the 75 Hp is in the $35-36,ooo area . go figure ?
