I've been getting front pulley "chatter" or squeaking for a while now, too. Mine happens only with normal acceleration but I don't hear it with generous acceleration; may just be drowned out by the Dyna. I don't hear it on decel.
After reading some posts here, I may need to check the front pulley and make sure the nut isn't loose.
But, if that's all good, where specifically are you applying the silicone lube, thumperclone?

Ok- I rubbed beeswax on the belt edges and all their corners. It did not stopped the sound.

FWIW, The "whee" sound experienced by one member is closer to my "nyeee" than a squeak would be.

I rode about 150 miles today, playing with different scenarios.
Again, I hear it when pulling in on the clutch, shifting up or down. I can also hear it if I twist the throttle down quickly (without the clutch) while traveling, say above 40 mph.

I also checked for play in the rear pulley, and I can wiggle it. How much movement, if any, is acceptable?

Make sure that front pulley is not moving on the shaft.
I'm surprised that the wax didn't change or eliminate the noise..
The rear pulley is rubber,well,mounted,kinda.. There are pie shaped chunks inside there. They Do wiggle. How much is too much? I don't know how to say.. I shimmed mine up tighter with strips of inner tube.

Do I need to jack up the bike or simply have it in neutral with the rear brake applied. Also, the Clymer manual says to install a new lock washer-is this necessary?

When you bend the lock washer away form the nut, you can just bend it up in another spot when you lock it down again. I like to double duty this, and I take the nut off and clean up the threads, and use Loc-Tite on the nut was well as using the bent washer.

If you decide to tighten up the rear hub....I used rubber floor mat to cut some pieces and a light dab of silicone to hold them in place while I assembled the hub.

Ok- I just checked the drive pulley with the torque wrench and the nut is torqued to at least 90 ft.lb. from the factory. So, this is not the problem.

Since this sound has been there since mile one, is it simply intrinsic to the bike and I've become fixated on it? Are there other things to check or just ride on?

Take the bike out on the highway and run it up to 100 KMPH. 2.Pull in the clutch and throttle back. 3. Coast to a stop listening for you squeak. 4. If you hear a squeaky rub a bar of plain old bar soap on both sides of the belt. 5. Squeak or chirp ( mind chirps) should be gone.
