Changed my oil today and after I had the new oil in the engine w/filter back in place, I noticed on the filler cap it was stamped; 10W40. Then it dawned on me what I had just done. I put 20W50 in, same as I did for my son's Harley Sportster. My garage stays heated all the time, so should not be any problems starting in the winter months unless left out in the cold. That would make it crank harder. Just had another Senior moment! Roll Eyes

I just had 20/50 on my brain because I had just changed the oil on my son's Harley 5 days before. I'm sure it will be OK, maybe even run a little quieter. Just wondering if any others had made the same goof? LOL

Mostly,.. the oil will be a little thicker at start-up...
It may take one extra turnover to start... the first minute running, the oil will be a bit thicker, so be gentle that first minute (you should do that anyway)...
After that,... it's fine...

Nobody actually rides in 20degree weather anyway... so it's not as critical as in a car...
I still have 20-50 in my bike, because I haven't ridden enough to need an oil change this year...
...(2 bikes and no time syndrome)... Undecided

It got down to 18f once... but that was the low record for the decade...
We do drop below freezing a couple of days a year...

It's 38f this morning,... and I turned on my central heater for the first time...but, temps are going back up...

I couldn't possibly ride in 20f... Huh

I have ridden in 20f deg weather. It's not that bad. Just bundle up really good. I have a one piece insulated cold weather riding suit. It does wonders from helping to keep the cold off of you. A couple jackets along with that and a few pair of socks. Thick, insulated gloves are really good for your hands.

I do have to say, though. I don't do that very often. But, if you have to, you have to.

We have non-US members and almost all of the rest of the world is metric. Guess we should keep that in mind especially talking about temperatures.

I had to have the piston turned to fit Evenrude piston rings. When I finally got it running, it was -5 below zero F. (American) I could not resist taking it for a very short spin, about a mile. My sinuses were frozen. Enough of that! LOL
