I still have the side covers, paint and graphics to go, but I'll ride it first for a bit. My hands aren't used to it! Grin

I'm taking it for longer and longer rides. A few nuts and bolts to tighten here, adjust this, move a mirror over etc... Took it to my parent's house; they were really surprised at what I did. They took a few shots but I doubt I'll get copies as its a digital camera and they are the type to replace memory sticks when they get "full". (Very frustrating dealing with them sometimes...okay, mostly all the time.) Mom asked if I named it Suzie. (WTH?) Huh I told her it's a SUZUKI, not SUZIE. (eye roll).
It's really been a lot of fun. I'm already planning my next one. I'm really curious about the Yamaha Virago conversions. Yes, I know they have been done already, but not by me! I feel I did some original things on my Ryca (Heidenau tires, cable decomp setup, swingplate) and I'm sure I could do the same with a Virago. When I get to that point, I'll let you know. Cool

I think the hardest part would be if you wanted to upgrade the rear wheel. If you can find the ultra rare Virago with wire wheels, it's easy. But with the mags, not so much. I'd probably just run the stock wheels and make it look like this. http://www.returnofthecaferacers.com/2011/11/doc-chops-yamaha-virago-cafe-rac...
It is one of the most coveted Virago cafe's out there. Cool There are several 81-83 Viragos for sale around me too!

Took it out for it's first night ride. Noticed that with the suspension changes, the headlight had 2 settings: low and super low! Came home and adjusted it in about 30 seconds. Smiley
Taking it to work this afternoon to show my students and co-workers.

Everybody at work liked it today. Smiley The ride over and back was fun. Noticed a few things I need to take care of but should be easy tweaks.

I don't have even 100 miles on it yet. Weather and free time haven't been in alignment this season. Huh

Was riding home from work the other day when I started hearing this squeal. When I got home I thought it was my license plate (Which had come off with it's bracket and wedged itself by the tire and swingarm (no damage done)) I got that remounted and WELDED in place and took it out. The squeal was still there. I thought my belt may have been too tight so I loosened it a hair. The squeal got MUCH worse but only on decel or non-accel. This lead me to believe it was something rubbing. Did a little searching and the Ryca belt guard was rubbing in the front. Tightened the belt back up, put a spacer in the front of the guard and ta-da! no more squealing!

Just went out for a nice ride. Temp was a little cool but my jacket is really warm.
As I was pulling in home, a guy in a Kia comes up my driveway wondering what I was riding. He was following me for a few miles, hoping I would turn slow so he could see the profile. He had no idea what it was but once we got talking he really loved the bike. I gave hime the full rundown of the bike and build, gave him this website, my build site and Ryca's site. That was a total first for me!
He did notice I had a nice chunk of rusty metal jammed into my tire though. Angry It didn't puncture it but if it went in just a bit further...
I hope we get a few more nice days before that *&^%*&^$@ white stuff starts coming down! Smiley

Started it up for the first time this year! Felt good! It's stumbling a bit but then again, when I wake up after a long night's rest, I'm not running so well either. I'm measuring out the side cover placement and trying to figure out how to get the parts painted. I never had anything painted before and I don't know anyone around here. I guess I'll go ask around at the local dealership for some leads.
Hopefully this weather will keep getting warmer. After the first big rain to get all the salt and crap off the roads, I'll start commuting to work again. Won't be at my college much longer though as it is closing it's doors in a few months. Undecided

Jeff,

That is really the brightest, glossiest red paint that I have ever seen.

Who ever painted it did a great job......
