Posts: 180 fort myers fl	fuel line/hose 03/16/15 at 15:28:19 got my raptor thingy today ronairs has a full stock up again. so i went to napa and bought new 1/4 inch id thick wall tubing . i will make a dupe of the stock hose and will not use a inline filter . the question is will 1/4 inch be large enough? thanks

If you are using ethanol pump gas (E10), don't use Nylon. My Sherco Trials motorcycle fuel tank was made of Nylon. After 2 months of using E10, the tank had absorbed the ethanol and grew in size.....it was pushing the rear fender off the mount. I took the tank off and set in outside for a few days to air out - and it shrunk back to the original size. Evidently ethanol is a solvent for Nylon.

So.....use the Tygon. The only concern I have with Tygon is that it is not very heat resistant - it works fine on the Savage but in applications where the fuel line is close to something hot.....it is not great. Silicone works much better in areas that are hot.

Nylon absorbs water which causes it to grow, you probably had some water in your gas.

I don't know what to tell you about water in my gas......

I bought E10 pump gas from the station, and the bike required Premium so I would turn the pump on to the Premium setting, pump a few gallons into my car to clear out the Regular fuel, then fill the jug with the Premium. I stored it in a 2.5 gallon plastic jug that I kept in my insulated garage.....I couldn't have been more careful about storing my fuel. I had two trials bikes, a 2004 that I bought used and had to replace the tank as the tank was soft and gooey when I bought it, and my 2009 that the dealer claimed would be fine on pump gas - it only took 2 months for the tank to swell up. If it is water related.....maybe it is the 90% humidity we have in this area in the summer. Once I switched to ethanol free fuel - I didn't have any more problems in 4 years. Could Nylon absorb both water and/or ethanol?

If I had problems with water in my fuel.....the same would apply to anyone riding on the street and using pump gas in their bike and using a nylon fuel line.

Just as, (if in doubt), a larger gauge wire is better than smaller.

And pump gas. The 10% ethanol stuff.

Ethanol, at it’s best is. 190 proof.
So if gas is 10% ethanol, then their is, .5% Water, in that gas.

In the real world, Most 10% gas, (regardless of Octane)
Is 1% (+/-) Water.

Choose a substance, that does Not absorb, or react with water.
Oh, and you would be better served with a gas hose/filter, larger than 1/4”. (Have tried it) It will work, but, Larger is Much better.
