I took a more complicated route.....why?  just because.   Since the tubes were already cut a bit too short, I made some jack bolts to support the crossbrace.  Overkill?  yup.

3/16" steel disks with a 3/8 nut welded to the underside.  Welded in the disk.  Trimmed.  installed a jack bolt and jamb nut.

Once the seat rear crosspiece is installed, we'll raise up the screws, and lock them with the nuts.

I'm not gonna lie...I really like this approach. No guess work, you'll get the seat and frame junction spot-on.

It looks good....I painted a trailer with Hot Rod Black and I like the finish.

Is it my imagination.....or is the speedometer upside down?

LOL, I noticed the same thing. The flat black is popular these days. How durable is it? It's a finish I've been considering as well. Mike, give me details on the shop and cost if you can. I need paint.

The bike looks SO MUCH better then what you started out with. Well done. When are we going riding? Flemington should be a good mid-way point.

True Hot Rod black from a local body shop.  Very durable....not rattle can stuff.  We didn't like the polish of the top tree, so we powder coated it black.

yes, gauge upside down.  Easier to get the bulb in / out in the back for now.  Once the wiring is sorted out, we'll flip it over.

Bodyshop that did the paint who we trade favors back and forth, so cost ?  all shops will be different.   I would say commercially, $600 or so for the pieces. matte paint isn't as bodywork critical as a shiny paint.

I would think that black epoxy primer would work just as well.  you can even get 2K spraymax in matte black. that was our second option.

The gauges sit kinda high right now.  we may lower them.  It depends if we put a small fairing on or not.

Basically, we just want to get it done at this point!

Fab work left?   making a beltguard.

Do I see a Benelli fuel tank in someone's future?

Benelli tank is from a little bike.  too small.

Wiring going on now.

May need to finish it with quick.  tore me shoulder, now scheduled for a "fix" in a couple of weeks.   yup, torn rotator. Sad

I WILL be moving the key mount.  I didn't think I would initially.  I want to do it so I can use a tank bag.

Proper signals and plate mount will have to wait.

Gotta think this out.  MAY or may not leave the indicator lamps in the tank.  May move them up to the tree.

Oooooouuch!  Rotator surgery is something I see happening all around me, and I want no part of it!

Hope you heal well.....Speedy Recovery isn't something to say when 6 weeks or more will be spent healing.

I know the drill.  3 fixes on the left shoulder, 2 previous on the right.  Too many sports and too much physical labor.  Now into 50s, I'm falling apart!  lol.  Last fix was last June.  fell on the ice in March and wiped out the repair!

I'll be out of work 2 weeks, then back in to close out the school year.  I can point and yell.  good enough to get the shop closed.  lol.   Should be out 8!  yeah, like I can do that!

To the bike:
Got 4 ABS long shaft, black 1156 bulb blinker assy.  and a 1157 bulb type cat eye tail light coming to replace the LED stuff.  I want the better lighting.

Again, going to move the key (and probably) the indicator bulbs.  I guess I should have sealed up the tank hole!    I could alway pop in the stock indicator and speedo housing.  I could pop out the speedo and install a compartment for storage (paperwork stuff).  who knows.

more to follow.

Made a bracket for the ignition switch today.  I will live just behind the starter.  Got all the wiring sorted out today.  All lighting is good.  Thats about all I could test.  Now making pigtails with connectors to speed up the tail light and signal installation.

Going to use a gutted stock speedo mount for the indicators - getting rid of the ryca plate.  seems the studs are a bit off where they go into the tank mounting tabs.  are there 2 different patterns?  or is my tank tabs off?

speedo removed, but I'm keeping the glass & bezel.  I need to find something fitting (3" pun intended) to fit into the space!
