Harley muffler with old back fire
06/16/15 at 18:56:03
Gents:
The s40 is running well; although, something new is occurring. I put on a dyna muff about 2 years ago and as opposed to the back fire I would get a deep gargle. For about a month now it is gradually getting louder & louder I am getting the old back fire again. It doesn't really bother me, just curious why? Perhaps a loose ground wire? Thanks.
Best regards,

Internals are trying to get out.....burned up inside, mine is doing it also. Ever look at your bike from the back while its running down the road? you know....while riding a friends bike? The exhaust hole looks like another tail light, bright red!

Could be rotting muffler guts as OR says,... could be loosened header bolts, or muffy clamp...
Check for snug... but don't strip...
22k miles... my Sporty shorty shot it's baffle plate out like a bullet...
Luckily,... I bought a pair...

Thanks guys, it must be all that tremendous power that single piston puts out.

Considering how this thing vibrates, check your air screw on the carb. It may have vibrated loose.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Hollow it out and get a cone filter. it'll be near impossible to "tune" but she'll be obnoxiously loud and awesome
