Nitrided Cam Chains ***SALE *** thru Nov 30
02/14/16 at 10:37:15
This is a survey or sorts.
I am wanting to know if there are any who are interested in getting a cam chain with nitrided pins.
I do not know what the price would be at this time.
If there is enough interest I will then get the price.
One thing for sure is that the price will be below the cost of a stock cam chain.
We did this a few years back and it was
very cost effective
.
I believe the price for the upgraded chain was about $45 out my door and that included shipping to you in the US. International was a bit more.
So, anyone interested ? ?
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Depending on how soon they could arrive.... If I could have it in my hands in 5 or 6 weeks, then yes.....

How would the nitrided chain compare with a normal chain? Longevity? Wear? Strength? I have never used one what would be the main advantage?

Lancer,
I will buy a chain although it is probably over a year until I will need one.
I will take the chain whenever it arrives.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

But it's the plates that wear, not the pins. Right? That's what causes the chain to "stretch". The pin holes oval out causing extra slack.
Am I understanding this correctly?

I know on a bicycle chain it's the pins that show the wear. 3 or 4 thousandths times the number of links adds up. A bike chain is 1/2" pitch, they say when 24 links measure 12 1/8" c to c it's done. That's .125" over 24 pins, or about .005" per pin. When you take one apart and look, you can see it. I don't think there is chain ''stretch'' as it is commonly called, only wear.

Right, chains don't stretch
per se
. The parts of the chain wear out causing it to be longer.
So I'm thinking the opposite way I should. The pins wear (get thinner) causing slack in the overall length of the chain?

A bike chain has rollers the pins ride in. Don't think a bearing, more like a bushing. Our cam chain has the pins going thru ''plates'' I believe. They should both wear, it seems.
Has anyone that has changed one taken one apart and looked?

This data seems to show that the pins and bushings wear.....rather than the plates stretching. I know that as my drive chains get longer...they get a lot more flexible and have a lot more sideways play can be moved more than a new chain will move.
