36 year old tire removal
05/19/16 at 15:19:09
The date code puts it at April 1980 ...
It's rock hard, broke the bead away both sides but couldn't get any "stretch" so, cut a section out trying to get at the bead, got a little of the bead wires cut with a hack saw, but can't get any closer with hacksaw without risk of cutting the wheel. Already tried wire cutters, none have any b@lls to deal with this bead, nor lineman pliers, the cutters don't reach, and my Greenlee 727s now have a rolled edge
Any tips on HOW to get this 36 year old tire off the wheel?

Rat,
Find a body shop or sheet metal shop with a Kett Saw.

Get some metal between it and the rim and finish it off with an abrasive wheel.
Did it with a car tire, I know you got less room.

the rocket geniuses have won again ...
the combo of y'alls responses got the tire off ... tackled it from the inside of the rim with my 19" tire tool and 24" breaker bar, gave me enough clearance to finish the hack job ...

Bot, I couldn't find my bolt cutters ...
tore the garage and truck apart looking for them ... my guesses either one of the kids got them or I left them up north when I was work on the barbed wire fences ...

WOW! Who keeps a tire for 36 years? Was this an Ebay find?

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

eBay find ...
complete wheel, tire, brake drum, brake lever, axle, axle nut, wheel spacers and tensioners for $70 out the door + FREE shipping ...
it's in great mechanical shape except the tire was old as &#@% and the brake shoes were delaminated ...

Just fill it up with air until the bead explodes!
Yeah, better not try that!

The tire is probably so dry and hard that you could probably ride it without a tube (and air)!
