Turnout Muffler Questions
12/05/16 at 08:48:21
I just installed a universal turnout muffler on my '07 Savage. After installing, the end of the muffler barely touches my brake cable. Will it ever cause issues besides rubbing the black paint off of the muffler?
Also, I'm having to make an exhaust mount. Anyone ever had to do this? If so, what did you do?

By the way, the exhaust is the Voodoo turnout.

Does their supplied mounting strap not reach the stock mounting points on the frame?

The stock mounting points would attach if the turnout is turned up since the mounting bracket attached to the muffler on the the side. If that makes sense.

Arty,
That muffler is cool looking.
Let us know how loud it is.

Thanks Kenny! It's loud! But with no sound laws here in Louisiana, it'll be ok. Eventually I guess I'd like to muffle it a little bit, but not exactly sure how just yet.

And I agree, that's a sharp lookin' pipe on your bike!

Love to hear a sound clip if you could load one up to the YouTubes

Ok, I think I have a temporary fix. Here's a photo (easier to show you then explain:
I say it's temporary because I want it to be solid which means I'd need to weld it straight to the frame where it's bolted in.
Here's a pic of it from underneath:
Don't think it'll hurt anything for time being do you?

I had some heat damage to the brake cable right next to the oil level window when I put on the supertrapp.
SO, check your cable where it's close, if it's hot you need to insulate or move it.

Is that the cable or the rod that passes by the muffler? I can't remember.
If it's the rod, put a minor arc in it where it passes the muffler.
An alternative, which I think would look more professional. Take something like a socket extension or some kind of dowel and put a small longitudinal dent in the back of the muffler to make a "trough" for the brake rod/cable. Be careful making the dent so you don't deform the muffler in the wrong places. It might work best by stuffing a sandbag into the muffler before trying to make the dent.

Well I was actually able to get it to work. With the combined effort of bolting down the exhaust bracket and tightening the header, it actually made it clear the cable a little bit. Actually worked out nicely. Now I'll need to take it outside and start it up. Hopefully there won't be any leaks.

Here's the sound clip. By the way, the reason it's smoking is because it's the first time I started it up after I wrapped the header.

The original mounting bracket can be easily bent and even rotated to line up with your muffler bracket. Just use a little sense and a pipe wrench.
