You could get them powder coated....that sure would be a lot of time spent in doing the prep work. The forks would have to be taken apart completely, all oil would have to be cleaned from the inside, the existing coating stripped, the legs bead blasted and then baked.......and then you have to put it all back together again.

Years ago, when I worked at a Honda shop (about 45 years ago!) we tried everything back then and couldn't get the clear coat off - it was more than a simple paint clear coat, it was much tougher.

I am sure it can be done though!

Was just confirming that disassembling the forks really is a lot of work for the aesthetic upgrade... if I had it to do again, I probably would have tried some of the other means of cleaning mentioned in this thread first.

He does fantastic work. Sorry I cannot say what the cost was as the fork lowers were a part of a larger job and I didn't get a cost per item breakdown.

The center cases are painted or powder coated with either silver or black, and it is pretty durable.

All of the brushed aluminum parts (the ones you mentioned plus the wheel hubs and brake hub) have a finish that is polished and clear coated - unfortunately the clear is not very durable for some reason. When the clear coat becomes nicked, cracked or violated - moisture gets underneath the coating and corrodes the aluminum. (The rear pulley hub has a silver paint/powder coat in it).

Washing and thoroughly drying the bike, and keeping it waxed helps. Bikes stored or ridden in damp environments are going to have the worst corrosion problems. Waxing is likely to help seal any surface flaws in the clear finish.

Hopefully that will help seal any tiny holes in the clear coat and prevent the creeping corrosion.
