North Korea is not a viable threat.
They bought Saddam's surplus. What do they have? A few T72 tanks, MAYBE still operational? A vintage V2 rocket?
We SHREDDED those T72's back in the early 90's during Desert Storm and we've since had 20 years of weapons development and advancement that NK hasn't been privy to.
Coupled with ICBM and the satellite technology the US has at its disposal, they aren't even a speed bump.

Not to the US. If you lived in Seoul, your perspective might be somewhat different though.

I just do not believe they have the ability to deliver any weapon that has close to the capacity they brag.....
I think if they armed a launch with a payload, they pretty much blow themselves up with another failure, or it's blown from the sky with a defensive strike by us, or China.

The poverty in that country is astounding and folks will readily rise if they know help exsist.
I feel S. Korea and China can make a play for it.

I think it's probably just a shakedown attempt. New Sheriff in town, Americans are sick of wars, Sheriff Promised to knock off the wars, so Kimmy throws a fit, puffs up, threatens the world with unparalleled DeStrukkshun, yeah, yeah, yawwnn,
Here's fifteen million dollars, shut up and go to your room.

except..... that Chihuahua got some fire power behind him that all he has to do is push a button.

He should have been taken out years ago, we should have killed him.

That would make the chihuahua a skunk.

I understand that he may be a threat to South Korea,  but is the threat  diminishing over time or getting stronger.  I'll put it in a perspective I believe we all can appreciate in the form of a question.
Hey guys my cam chain tensioner is sounding pretty rough. Should I fix it now or just wait till it comes apart just to see how bad it really is?

I don't think so. What are Trumps options. militarily ?

Can't use nukes. Certainly not preemptively. And from a practical standpoint North Korea is way to small and too close to South Korea, Japan, China and even Russia for that to be a possibility. The fallout would not be contained to North Korea.

Air strikes with conventional munitions are not sufficient by themselves to bring a country to it's knees unless they relentlessly target civilian populations. And that takes time. No way Trump gets away with that.

North Korea would by no means be a pushover in a ground war. It took six months to get sufficient resources in place on the Iraq border before the push to Baghdad. And Iraq is desert. Ideal for mechanised infantry and armor. North Korea is not. A large portion of it is mountains.

Don't forget that the first Korean conflict wasn't settled . What exists is merely an armistice - a cease fire. North Korea in no way believes that it lost that war, nor that it is really over. It would be a huge mistake to underestimate either it's resolve and its ability to defend itself from an invasion of it's territory. Technological superiority isn't such a huge advantage in a war of attrition when everyone is walking and carrying their sh*t on their back.

The US is not right now ready to fight a war like that, either militarily, or, more importantly, politically.  Do you think that Trump, congress, or whomever, is going to be able to sell a war like that; a multi year war with the likelihood of tens of thousands of American casualties, to the American people  Possibly I suppose, but it would be a huge mistake.

So. Stalemate. Unless, or until. Kim actually launches an attack first, which I don't think he's likely to do.

I think the two big shots are just going to keep flipping each other the bird, and yelling "F*ck You!" at each other for a while.  At least I hope so.

Yep agree.  Area, will not work with Nukes, and the ground area, would be like V.M.

The N.K. Dictator, can’t pull up his pants with both hands,
And, if he ever  accomplished a missile launch,
their would be 15 +  Countries that would shoot it down before it left N. Korea air space.

He is just like the child, in the grocery store with his, Mother,
Throwing a  Temper Tantrum, (wanting this or that candy)
Because in the last 8 years, he GOT, his, ‘candy’.
(He,  LEARNED, that worked with the, ‘wanna be  king’).

If he, even remotely looks today, at other places,
he will find out,  ’Not Gonna  Happen’ !

The real question, in my mind, is why China has allowed this foolishness to continue.  Heck, they are a more logical target for Korean bombs than the US. Is Korea China's "enemy on the border" which gives them the "need" for their large Chinese standing army.  The justification??

I suspect they simply do NOT want a unified Korea, which would be an economic powerhouse.

As far as selling such a war, the usual gambit is to sacrifice a few soldiers or sailors, then run around crying we can't let those brave men die in vain (so we fight another war and lose 10K more dead, 1/2 million mentally screwed.

People who have not figured that out yet are silly.
Odd, people see this but not the sneakier crap.

It appears they trade approximately 6B a year.  Other than, I don't know why any one would tolerate that regime.

Ever play Risk?
Look at the landmass of the Korean peninsula. Look at the China/Korean border.
Look at the strategic benefit of having a belligerent force to defend the peninsula that borders China.
All of the shoreline that China doesn't have to worry about...
