In doing install it obviously requires remving everything. For the grips, assume a screw driver, maybe some compressed air through a tube nozzle. Anything special I need to know about removing throttle? Thanks.

I use grip glue on the new ones. Having a grip come off in the middle of a turn can be distracting.

Twist the grip a bit to spread it around. It'll often just about fall off.

Undo the bolt on the control box, unhook the cable, and the tube just slides off.

I used a Phillips/JIS style screwdriver with a round stem. I work the tip of the screwdriver under the grip for the length of the grip. Once I have it all the way in, I use the red WD40 tube and spray along the screwdriver. Then I roll and move the screwdriver around the grip to loosen it from the handlebar (left side) and from the throttle tube (right side). I can generally get the grips off undamaged.

When putting on new grips you can use the WD40 to get them slid on, the set the bike in the sun and let the WD40 go away....and most times the grips will be stuck on and not move around - the solvent in the WD40 seems to soften the rubber and make it sticky.

That's true. However I had a hard time getting the grip off the ridges in the throttle. I felt like I might damage something. Those ridges are high, and the grip on that side has grooves on the inside that match the ridges. In the end I took the tube and grip off so I could get at it more easily.

Will get some new grips to go with new bars. I like the originals so will try to get another set.

Gender:	Re: Tips for removing hand grips Reply #12 - 07/25/23 at 18:45:52 The easiest way to get the throttle grip off is to take a coat hanger rod and jam it all the way inside, bent it into a z and spin it, it'll break all the glue apart then you can easily pull the grip off
