But there are 2 major problems with his conclusions:

1 The idea that Islam is one big monster that is hell bent on world domination and its followers are all oriented toward achieving that goal. Bill Warner is American. Americans have this tendency to believe that they are the natural beings of the planet and that any other society based on any other model that is radically different from theirs is an alien presence.

The same attitude was adopted while dealing with Communism back in the days of the Cold War. After WW2, the USSR did install puppet governments in Eastern Europe as a buffer zone for itself. This became the American model of understanding Communism. So for example, when Communism arrived in Vietnam, it was not seen as a result of Vietnamese history or people, but instead was seen as the encroachment of another nation by the big, red, monolithic machine controlled from Moscow. It was assumed that once Vietnam became Communist, all other SE Asian nations will fall, completely ignoring the different histories and pasts of each of these nations. Similarly, when Cuba became Communist, it was seen as an action of the USSR, again the monolithic machine in action. No attention is given to the fact that the people of Cuba were fed up with the corrupt government of Batista.

The same mistake is being made in the case of Islam. Warner completely ignores the internal rivalries within Islam. For instance the war for influence between Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia. Instead, he focuses only on pan Islamism. Pan Islamism is a South Asian phenomenon. It is prevalent only in the minds of the Indian, Pakistani and the Bangladeshi Muslim. By doing so, he is making the same mistake that the Americans made during the Cold War that caused them to be involved in foolish endeavors like the Vietnam War and the Bay of Pigs.

2 Warner frequently mentions that many Christian lands fell to Islam. He argues that Turkey was one Greek. It is not 99.7% Muslim. Christianity has been almost wiped out of Iraq, Iran, Egypt etc. He is factually correct. But then, he again goes back to the argument of Islam being the monolithic beast hell bent of World domination. As a counter one can say, there was no Christian in the North and South American continents, 600 years ago. Now both these continents are 95% plus Christian. The US itself was built upon the corpses of millions of Native Americans who were systematically eradicated.

Conclusion:

While i do not dispute his study of the Quran, I do question the conclusions he arrives from it.

I have more faith in my country and its people.  Sorry to disappoint, but there is NO sharia law in this country.  The buffoons that held marches against it this weekend might have just as well marched against being ruled by Khan from Star Trek.  The same goes for communism.  People with your same feeble minded fear is what drove the mccarthy hearings.
