Huh?

It's as old as mankind Web.

Money buys power.
Power makes the rules.
The stock market in a garden, where you plant the seeds you bought.
It's can grow bountifully, giving you more money to buy more seeds.
Now, would it be prudent to weed that garden so all the nutrients go to the good seeds?
Now wouldn't you want to make sure it gets watered so it grows abundantly?

Now wouldn't you want to harvest your bumper crop and take it to the market to sell so you can buy more power?

You would if you want to make the rules.

Agreed...huh?

I think ray is laying out the "how" and those that benefit are unaware.

If that is the case - I can see that.

As for myself - my 401K has been doing gangbusters - but unlike a lot of folks I know - I'm constantly changing my allocations.  I try to stay involved in the day to day.

Gee, in my mind I see my point clear as day  Grin

The stock is manipulated where it can be.....
Why, because the ones that can, want to ensure their own success.
It is a very sophisticated Ponzi scheme, with the puppet masters pulling the strings.
A good market brings in more marks, us, all of us, we are not even on the radar screen no matter how much arm waving and calling attention to your self, sorry, your a turd in the lawn, smell it!

When the fruit gets ripe, they pick it, hopefully we can grab a little on the lower hanging branches.

It is the way it is, Why.....
I told you why.
He who holds the power, make the rules.

Go pretend otherwise, you'll be just as hungry as all the other peasants when the aristocracy closes the market doors.

I got lots tied up in the game too.
It's all paper, won't taste good if it's worthless, no matter how much bravado you sprinkle on it.

I am on the verge of retiring, and when I do, it's all going in CD's a lower paying promise that is still just paper.

The stock market see's a Republican (Pro-Business) Congress and White House; money that was stored for the past eight years suddenly comes forward for investment because they believe the tax system will be modified to be more accepting of wealth earned by investment.  (If it can be - editorial comment).  They also expect the rewrite of health care will provide for the wealthy, tax credits for costs for example (much like home interest tax credit).   Shocked

You could interpret it that way.  But what about the gains of the previous 8 years?  Obama was definitely pro-business.  Maybe too much so.

Yes, I know we had a republican Congress for 6 of those.  But if you look at the gains - well, it's pretty much a 45 degree climb since 2009.  i don't think you can deny that.

Either way, my investments have been paying off well.  But I hardly think it's all "republican" - IMHO.

Raydawg,
I'm with you. The older I get, the more conservative my investments become. Can't weather another crash.
The way I look at it, the NY Money Mafia elected this guy. It makes sense that the market went up. He is promising to lower the cap gains on investment income. So, I'm figuring until that happens, the market will continue to go up in anticipation of it.
His real beef with Obamacare was that the ultra rich were paying some of their investment income to fund it.
For the market to go this high this fast, it kinda has to backtrack at some point.
When it does, I'll invest more.
Scrounged up money in '09 to start a stock fund. Market was at 12,000, went to  6,000, went back up to 12,000 before long. Now it's 21,000+.
To me, the thing to do now is take some of the gains and invest in real estate. Specifically, places you can rent to the lower middle class, and people just starting out. Odds are, they can't afford to buy, and maybe never will.
Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.
YMMV

Armen, I thought about real estate, but that too is work, unless you are a big player who pays others do do the work....
Even small a triplex, good income per square foot, low maintence, etc, but I just want to "fold em"

My wife still is working, 4 more years, she made a deal with a doctor that she would manage his practice, and she also has her own business, from home, which we have paid taxes on for over 20 years....
Its time that we cashed in on that, with travel, etc, on the business  Wink

Good luck, health, to you Sir!

Raydawg,
Good luck and good health to you sir!
Great to see someone able to retire well.
We used to go to Fla to visit the folks. I'd say to my son (young at the time), "Look around here. Lots of old folks that still have to work. Lots of old folks in terrible shape. Protect your health, build your wealth."
