Your thoughts?
07/29/17 at 07:45:47

“As poles of good and evil, he was offered two conceptions: egoism and altruism. Egoism was held to mean the sacrifice of others to self. Altruism—the sacrifice of self to others. This tied man irrevocably to other men and left him nothing but a choice of pain: his own pain borne for the sake of others or pain inflicted upon others for the sake of self…Man was forced to accept masochism as his ideal—under the threat that sadism was his only alternative.”

Are these messages a part of today's narrative?

Forced, and free will, opposing factions that can never be threaded together, in a tapestry of life.
But, as a 24 hour clock, a cycle, a fact, an absolute that  governs mans life, he lives, and dies, to its dictate.
Part of that cycle is night, and day....... a fact.
You can go inside a large structure, escape the effects of night, but not of night itself.
As with darkness, it can never overcome the effects of light, but succumbs to the power, light has over darkness, even tho one might close their eyes to it.....
Mans freewill, is his power over all other things.
How he uses it, decides his fate.

So no, I do not agree with this assessment assigned to mankind.
As will evil, it shall always be present in our world, however, it can never win over, love, never.

Wow,, you READ that, and that is your understanding?
Lay your bible down.
It's about the pressures of society to drive people into disregard for the individual in support of the Group.
To not Do Well for Self, because to do so can Only be accomplished by taking from others.
A Masochistic Altruism in the search for being a part of the collective rather than
being a victimiser.
As if achievement is somehow hurtful to others NECESSARILY.

IT'S a false choice.

Read it again and focus on the words and sentence structure.

As a quick thought, no masochism and altruism are not the only choices, nor is man tied to just one or the other.  We all choose numero uno over all others, unless we see someone in desperate straights, or me or the children.  Some would still choose numero uno (I bet you are thinking of the Donald) although He Said he had made sacrifices.   Grin Grin Grin Grin

Well gee, perhaps maybe next time instead of titling your post as " Your thoughts", why not try "Agree with me or shut up"  Embarrassed

It's not about agreement it's about reading your reply and having to re-read my post, because your reply was so distant from the original post.

I shall, therefor, hopefully, be crabby, later. However, not in the same manner, as TT  Grin
